Pathuppattu poems are Pattinapālai, Mullaipāttu, Nedunalvādai, Sirupānātrupadai, Perumpānātrupadai, Malaipadukadām, Kurinjipāttu, Murukātrupadai, Maduraikānchi, and Porunrātrupadai. These are long poems, each with a story.
பொருநர் ஆற்றுப்படை
ஆசிரியர் – முடத்தாமக் கண்ணியார்
பாடப்பட்டவன் – சோழன் கரிகால் பெருவளத்தான் (கரிகாலன்)
திணை – பாடாண்திணை
“முருகு பொருநாறு பாணிரண்டு முல்லை
பெருகு வளமதுரைக் காஞ்சி – மருவினிய
கோலநெடு நல் வாடை கோல் குறிஞ்சி பட்டினப்
பாலை கடாத்தொடும் பத்து”.
ஆற்றுப்படை means showing the path and guiding.
பெரும்பாணாற்றுப்படை, சிறுபாணாற்றுப்படை, மலைபடுகடாம், பொருநராற்றுப்படை – These are poems where one bard tells another bard about a donor king, his country, the way to get there and how to make the king happy and get gifts from him.
பொருநர் – Porunar: Porunars are war bards. They were especially close to the chiefs and princes. They played the தடாரி and கிணை drums.
